Once in the wild there were hundreds of thousands of Royal Bengal tigers that used to roam in the jungles of India.During British rule in India they were indiscriminantly hunted by the british officers and nobels in India.Once an British hunter killed about hundred royal bengal tiger in a single day.
Even after independence tiger hunting continued.But during the time of first women prime minister of India efforts were made to conserve the tiger popullation in India after a revalation of a survey that concluded that less than 2000 tigers are remaining in the wild.In year 1973 India's Project Tiger was launched with the enthusiastic support of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a powerful patron.The tiger became India's national symbol. International conservation organizations rushed in to help, especially the World Wildlife Fund and IUCN-World Conservation Union, launching a fund-raising drive in support of Project Tiger and similar conservation efforts in other tiger-range countries. In India and elsewhere, tiger killing was banned. Habitat for tigers was set aside in specially designated tiger reserves, in which every effort was made to separate tigers from people, usually by restricting commercial harvest of forest or other products in these reserves and by relocating the inhabitants.This massive operation provided a great hope in tiger conservation.
34 years after project tiger thier number have raised but still tiger population is under extreme pressue due to wide spread tiger body part trade in China.In a recent revalation China who made it illegal to trade tiger parts is reconsidering its desicion .They want to make it legal to sell tiger part from tigers of thier tiger farm.But by doing this they will put enourmous pressure on tiger popullation in wild ,as poacher will kill many more tiger to meet the demand of chinesse tiger market.The demand of tiger in china is mainly because of the need of tiger body part in traditional chinesse medicine.But strange it may appear the aphroditic property that the tiger body part such as bones , nails etc contain is same as that found in other animals including human being.
So being an animal lover I would request all animal lovers to join hand to save the last remaining tigers of India.
